Mr. Tom Elliott
Vice President
Treasure Hunters Society of Santa Clara Valley
4364 Belvedere Drive
San Jose, CA 95129

Dear Mr. Elliott:

I would like to thank you and the below listed members of the Treasure Hunters Society of Santa Clara Valley for all the hard work in assisting Mountain View Police Department in search for evidence in an attempted murder of a police officer which occurred on November 1, 2002.

As you are aware of the size and terrain of the area searched, the Mountain ViewPolice Department has neither the staffing nor expertise to search for the firearms discarded by the suspects in this case. It was indeed fortunate that your society was available and willing to volunteer time and equipment to search the cold, wet and swampy Palo Alto Baylands along E. Bayshore Frontage Road in Palo Alto on November 16, 2002.

Please thank the below listed members on my behalf:

Although no firearms were located, we were able to demonstrate to the courts that we made every reasonable effort to recover the evidence in this case. This will be particularily important when this goes to court, since the suspects and weapons in this case are believed to be involved in the homicide of a Burlingame bank employee earlier this year.

Once again, thank you for your help. It is the commitment by concerned members like yourselves that make our community a better place to live.
